“OpenStack Inside”

I’ve been thinking more about the consequences of the expanded role for OpenStack. Back in Portland, Josh McKenty was pushing the idea of an externally-administered conformance test for OpenStack clouds. However if Lydia is right (and I think she is), we’re going to see a lot of systems which use OpenStack technology without exposing any kind of standard programmatic interface. Maybe OpenStack needs to take a leaf out of Intel’s old marketing playbook, and encourage people to brand their solutions as “OpenStack Inside”. After all, when Intel persuaded all of their OEMs to put “Intel Inside” stickers on their products, it didn’t necessarily imply any kind of interoperability.
